Royal Stoke Hospital Accommodation

Royal Stoke Hospital is an expansive complex that houses most of the Trust’s services and functions as a hub of research, teaching, and patient care.

Since the pandemic began, this hospital has experienced sustained and severe pressure. To respond effectively, they declared a critical incident and are taking measures to maintain patient safety.

Wards

Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stafford is an exciting new NHS facility that hosts 80% of Trust services including major trauma and emergency centres as well as various specialty facilities such as those providing vascular, cardiac, neurological and cancer treatments.

Rebuilding of the hospital was completed in 2012 to bring all clinical buildings under one roof, creating an exciting place to work and an incredible facility for patients. The campus houses all major speciality departments such as cardiology, neurology, urology, women & children’s services/trauma and more.

As well as offering various wards, this hospital boasts an airy atrium featuring Costa Coffee and WHSmith as well as a mezzanine level restaurant serving full meals. Furthermore, self check-in screens have been installed in order to reduce queues at main reception.

Portakabin Hire’s modular solution was used to accelerate construction in the Atrium, featuring two theatres, recovery room and both ‘dirty’ and ‘clean’ utilities; single rooms with en-suite bathrooms; staff changing rooms; offices; as well as craned into position with wall finishes, internal partitioning M&E services and flooring already in place to further reduce build time on site.

The wards are created to be flexible, meeting different patient care needs. For example, respiratory wards contain 14 side rooms themed with wall murals to foster a more therapeutic and personal atmosphere; similarly, dementia care units offer more soothing environments.

Outpatients

At our hospital, patients can access several specialty clinics for care including rheumatology, orthopaedics and gastroenterology. Furthermore, there is also a cancer centre which diagnoses approximately 2,400 new cancer cases annually. There are over 650 inpatient beds at our hospital as well as many outpatient appointments scheduled daily – patients are treated with dignity and compassion and staff make every effort to make sure that they understand their conditions and treatment as well as being provided advice on living more healthily.

Royal Stoke University Hospital recently celebrated completion of a PS6 million expansion at Royal Stoke University Hospital by modular building contractor MTX, in just 24 weeks from ordering date. Although challenging in terms of logistics, because the new modular building was situated between existing buildings and an already active maternity unit. Delivery required careful co-ordination as it involved craneing modules over occupied spaces during assembly.

The maternity unit is an extremely busy unit that cares for over 12,000 babies per year. Staffed by specialist midwives and nurses, this department boasts the highest rate of births in West Midlands and strives to give each baby the highest-quality care – prenatal care, labour & birth assistance as well as postnatal support – available.

Charity funding has provided comforting relief for families of newborn babies staying in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). A trust has used their grant to refurbish six family rooms, as well as create a bereavement suite. This makes it easier for parents to remain close to their infant and strengthen the bond before being discharged home.

Parking

Royal Stoke University Hospital (UHNM) will soon construct a multi-storey car park to alleviate staff parking woes on former North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary and Central Outpatients Department sites, located one mile away. Due to this problem, staff struggle with arriving on time for work, forcing many into residential areas where parking disruption causes major inconvenience for nearby residents.

UHNM Trust plans for a multi-storey car park at Grindley Hill Court are being approved by the Council’s Planning Committee, who voted unanimously in favour of their plans. Existing hospital staff accommodation on site will be demolished to make way for it and members of the Committee voted in favour.

UHNM’s staff parking facilities are already severely oversubscribed, with car parks situated over one mile from its main hospital building causing issues for those working nearby. While some hospitals rely on temporary car parks – this usually means staff have to walk or wait for transport in order to make it to work on time – UHNM’s director of estates noted that moving staff parking closer to hospital site would reduce these problems while increasing staff punctuality.

Hospital Radio has been broadcast to Royal Stoke, County and Cannock Chase hospitals since 1972, giving patients, visitors, staff and healthcare workers an outlet to listen to music and interact. Available across all wards at no cost for your entertainment!

Homestay near Alton Towers with resident dog and cat is situated in Stoke on Trent and features a garden, free private parking, WiFi internet connectivity and WiFi service. Capesthorne Hall and Buxton Opera House can both be reached within 20 minutes by driving.
